Josh Flayhart

I love music! I am also a Drummer and took several years of saxophone lessons. I love anything musical from Classical to Hard Rock, except for Country… I started to get into the DJ scene around 2009 when I had to plan the music for my best friend’s 21st and decided I wanted to do more than just iTunes. Turned out very well and I got asked to do more parties around UA in Tuscaloosa where I was attending university. Eventually I got some DJ software (NI’s Traktor Pro), a midi controller, and was well on my way to owning the dance floor. The possibilities are endless now.

I tend to favor the whole EDM genre (Electronic Dance Music), mainly Dubstep and Progressive House. My favorite dubstep artist is Datsik because he makes some really sick beats. I also love Armin Van Buuren, and Avicii and Nicky Romero are amazing Progressive Electro DJs. My goal for Birmingham, AL is that people will go beyond their “comfort zone” of the regular Hip Hop and Top 40… I want to use recognizable tracks with an electronic beat to get people into the ever-growing EDM scene.

You can read more about me here http://www.joshflayhart.com/biography/, which happens to be my own website and my show “It’s Bigger Than Hip Hop,” which airs here every Friday night from 7-8pm! I wanted to make a show using music that I really like and also that I find from artists all over the world. Feel free to hit me up on any of the social networks and I would LOVE any comments and new song ideas for my show. Cheers!

Best Radio Show?

Some people love listening to Alabama’s The Q at 103.7 or the new 99.5 The Vibe, but to be honest, they just loop about 20 songs and it gets old! I listen to my own assortment of music that I collect, but for the past several years I’ve really enjoyed the UK’s BBC Radio 1. [...]
